GUERRILLA MARKETING AT CAUSEWAY BAY, HONG KONG

SHOE BRAND – CAMPER – did a "hit-&-run" guerrilla marketing stunt today at Causeway Bay. It was superbly entertaining and attention-grabbing. Surely, people noticed the brand (but not sure if this drives sales later). Still, the dramatic act attracted a lot of press media and froze the entire shopping street. The actors were super cool in their acting and they made fun of the people along the street. Watch my video capture below (Poor construction worker – he was just paving the road and he didn’t know he was the "highlight" of Camper’s joke until much later).

Be Cakeful, it is Halloween!

Haunted Disneyland

Elm Street at Causeway Bay

Halloween is certainly more fun than Christmas and Chinese New Year. At least, it has a lot more characters than all festive combined! In fact, you can come to a Halloween party dressing up as an "Evil Santa" or a sexy "Fortune Goddess". More than just blood, gore and creepy faces, it is a spectacular costume-festival. Too bad, it isn’t a public holiday

This year, Halloween falls on a weekend. It certainly brings up the mood of this festive. For a moment, I thought I was back to Tokyo! Halloween so so big here in Hong Kong. The shopping streets at Causeway Bay looked like Elm Street! Beisde the usual "Draculas", we saw lots of cosplays (sexy nurses, sluts, policegals) and under-dressed superheroes. These "characters" were superbly friendly – you can pose with anyone on the street. We bumped into Spidey and he even webbed Elkan a candy! For me, I spotted a real sexy policegal (in hot shorts) and quickly grabbed Elkan to "woo" her. I said "Take my son away and lock me in your cell!" (Stupid Tracy, she took the photo waist-down! She missed the long sexy legs!)

Elkan Joe in Action!

This is our 3rd Halloween in Hong Kong. Last year, Mummy Felicia made Elkan a "CHUA-E" suit. (Click Link: Halloween 2008) This year, Elkan got his wish fulfilled! Mummy dressed him up as his favourite movie character – Indiana Jones! Felicia spent 3 weeks sourcing those props – hat, boots, recycle brown bag, toy gun. She even made him a "soft whip"! Elkan was so excited about his whip, he told Felicia: "I will use my whip to round up WenLan (his sweetheart in school) and pull her into my arms!" (Man, how cheeky he is!)

Not sure how many of his classmates would know about "Indiana Jones" – Elkan looks more like a cowboy than a treasure hunter. It wasn’t as exciting as last year – many of the kids came in their home clothes. That is perfectly okay, cos’ in reality, there is only 1 spiderman and 1 superman. We need civilians in distress. Of all, I thought his teacher dressed best. She was one hot catwoman (maybe Elkan can lend her his whip!).

King Cicada is 75th!

Straight from Tokyo, Kenneth (our 74th-75th Hong Kong Visitor) hopped in yesterday with his wife, Karen! What a perfect timing for a Friday gathering – King Bug meeting Flu Bug. (I was down with fever and was on MC yesterday – not H1N1.) His Grass-Shopper Wife was somehwere out there at Mong Kok. It was indeed a very short meeting… and they flew back today. Gotta miss them throughout winter. Sigh… I have to wait till summer before I meet this bug again.

I Can Show You the World

We have a long weekend this week (Monday is a public holiday in Hong Kong). Since Felicia and Elkan haven’t been to Shenzhen, I decided to bring them cross the border and visit their most famous theme-park – Window of the World "世界之窗".

Built in 1994, "Window of the World 世界之窗" was one of the 3 famous little world theme-parks in greater China. The other two are located in Taiwan (Click Link: 小人国) and Beijing (Click Link: 北京世界公园)

This park is bigger than what I have expected. It is about 400,000sqm big, showcasing 43 national minitures. It will be good to visit this park during winter – when the weather is more cooling and comfortable. This place promises excellent photo-opportunities. Especially for the first-timers. As this park was built more than 15 years ago, (judging its current conditions) I must say the management maintains this place very well. I am sure they did many renovations over the past 1 decade. No doubt, there are still rooms for improvements and updates. Especially for Singapore – it is time to put in our new landmarks like the Esplanade. Our Merlion presence here looks very 80s.

Lady Alicia is Here!

Our last meeting with Alicia was more than 15 months ago. We came to Hong Kong last June working on an event at Lan Kwai Fong. Since then, Alicia left the company and I moved to Hong Kong. It has been a long while since we last met. And on Saturday, Alicia was in town for just 1 day. We decided to gather at Shenzhen for our long weekend vacation.

Belated Gifts From Taiwan

Meijie just came back from his Taipei trip – with 2 big belated birthday gifts (one from Jinjie) for my little monster. And those were his favourite legos! (Sniff, sniff… my friends used to spoil me on my big day and now, it seems that my boy has stolen his old dad’s limelight!). Thank you all for spending so much on my little boy. Yes, Elkan is indeed very very happy!
