Cat Flight

Gloomy Taipei

24 hours in Taipei – with Hovman!

Can’t really get used to the “sudden desertion and loneliness” – Just 24 hours ago, I was celebrating my cousin’s wedding and having late night suppers with my all buddies in Singapore- and now, I was roaming the streets alone, thousands of miles away in Taipei. By sheer coincidence (and blessing), Felicia found out on Facebook that my good friend Hovman is also in Taipei today!  I quickly contacted Hovman and we managed to meet up for some really yummy “street-delicacies”. Our dinner? Standing / sitting and eating by the roadside at Xi-Men-Ding. Thanks for his brotherly companionship – Life cannot be any better and luckier for me!

Mermaid and The Lion

(Photo Taken: In a tourist shop in Singapore – Surely, shouldn’t we keep the Mermaid’s top and the Lion’s hind legs and tail as the order of the name suggests – MER..LION?)

The Last Supper (Burp!)

(Photo Taken: Newton Circle, Singapore – Guess where we went right after Leon’s wedding? Thanks to Meijie and Joanne for another wee hours “farewell” supper! How to lose weight under such “eating conditions”?)

When (Play)Boy Becomes Man

When Leon announced his wedding plans 4 months ago, many of us couldn’t believe it. He was a notorious playboy of our clan. After years of waiting and “nagging”, Leon finally tied the knot with his Xiamen sweetheart, Qiaoqiao last night at the Traders’ Hotel Orchard.

Growing up with Leon was never easy. He was the lead prankster, a very street-smart leader who often got the kids into serious trouble. My cousin Leon was a very successful playboy or you call him a natural charmer – he has the height, the 6-pack and a very very seductive smile. Girls of all ages, races simply flocked to him. (Yes, I am jealous cos I have to work so hard to woo the girls. With Leon around, I can never get girls – that is why I hardly hang out with him after Secondary 4. Haaaa)

Every playboy has his day. A day when (play)boy becomes man. It was only through his best-man we found out about those “super un-playboy’s deeds” that Leon has done for his wife. He tattooed her name on his body, he jumped into a river just to prove his love for her…and god knows how many more unlikely stunts my cousin did for his love one. (Well, at least we know he really really love his wife! And he finally found a good match!)

It was a wonderful and enjoyable evening with all the friends and relatives. Once again, congrats to my Auntie Amy and Uncle Benny! All the best, Cousin Leon and Qiaoqiao. Great speech by the way! (And Chester – you will be in the spotlight soon! Better fix it soon lah. Those aunties are coming…)

Ice Ice Braty

(Photo Taken: National Geographic’s Freezing Chamber at Vivo City – We thought this is one good way to keep a hyperactive child still. Elkan was jumping wildly and having a good time in the minus-2-degree glass box. He attracted more attention than ever. We decided to let this brat out of his cage.)

Universal Studio Singapore

Today, we joined thousands of children celebrating Children’s Day at the Universal Studio Singapore. I was told by many that the USS is smaller and “less attractive” than Disneyland Hong Kong. My verdict (after visiting the place): Both themeparks are very different. In my opinion, USS offers more action and drama than Hong Kong Disneyland!

My favourites are the “Revenge of the Mummy” indoor semi-dark roller-coaster ride and the highly-entertaining explosive “WaterWorld” show. “Steven Spielberg’s Special Effects Studio” is awesome! The destruction effects are spectacular! (It surely shocked my kid to the back of the room!) I will give them full marks if they add in the wind / big waves. “Shrek 4D” surpassed my expectation – the show jolted me off the chair with unexpected physical “sensations”.

My only complain is the hot weather. The park management should install more “mist blowers” to cool down the heat. Everything else is great. I am looking forward for their new expansion and add-on attractions in the coming future!

A Warm Welcome for the Ho Family

At the Top of 2 Worlds

It is difficult not to fall in love with Singapore. The beautiful sunset, the mesmerising skyline, the cozy living spaces, the colourful lifestyle and best of all, our warm and friendly cosmopolitans.

Thanks to the company of a 2 very good friends, Sarah & son (my Primary School sweetheart) and Harshad (who flew in from HK today) – we visited Singapore’s two finest peaks – The Equinox and the new SkyPark. Looking at the Singapore city from the top, I realised how well-designed are our city-planning . Compared with cities which are overly saturated like Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong, we still have lots of opportunities and spaces to grow and prosper. The breathtaking sunset view of our city is exhilarating. Overlooking the setting sun in the world famous “Infinity Pool”, this is such a perfect place for lovers! (no wonder my newlywed cousin and wife are staying there tonight). This is one view that I will remember for a long long time.

Later that night, Kalinda, Meijie and Joanne joined us for supper and drinks. Meijie brought us to a “Bak Ku Teh” restaurant where we had authentic Singapore-styled “tea pork soup”. Even Harshad enjoyed it too!

We ended the night early at Singapore’s version of “Lan Kuai Fong” – Clark Quay – where Harshad promised to perform his “Reversed Bungee” dare tomorrow. Time to catch some sleep now – cos’ tomorrow is another long tiring sight-seeing day at Sentosa. And guess what, we will be having our reunion-cum-welcome dinner with the Ho Family! What an exciting weekend!
