Outta of My Windows

After 3 years of adopting my 1st Apple product (the iPhone), it finally converted my entire household to its cult. From Mac Air to Mac Book and now iMac (soon – iPad) , our entire family is now 90% Apple-wired.

What happened to our PCs? I have given up hope on Microsoft OS. After the failure of VISTA, the people at Microsoft failed to build an user-friendly interface for its users. True to its brand name "Windows", the OS does nothing but popping up numerous useless windows. It was a frustrating experience. There were just too much "procedures" to get from Point A to Point B. (Seriously, Microsoft should just fire all their research / product team!) The worst and most unacceptable activities were the endless updates, patches that we have to download to "cover Windows’ weakness". My god, I didn’t pay for WIFI just to download Microsoft’s leaking security. And the more updates I downloaded, the slower my PC became.

PC viruses were the main reason why I decided to shut the Windows for good. <Again, why do we need to pay for Antivirus software just to protect a lousy product?) Last week, a really bad virus slipped into my system and deleted 80% of my files! (All my photos and personal files were gone! Good thing I did a back-up in Jan 2010.)

Finally, after more than 20 years of usage (since Windows 3.0), I decided to give it all up. Dun get me wrong – the hardware guys did a fantastic job but the soul inside needs a big revamp. Why can’t Microsoft produce simple solutions for its OS – like what they did for their own MSN Messengers and Windows Spaces. Ever since the launch of shitty Version 97, Windows wasn’t the right OS for me anymore – I have no more tolerance and patience to handle another 10 years of crap. I need something more friendly and reliable. (Despite my hatred for the OS, I still have to face it at work everyday.)

Certainly for now (at home), I choose to take the forbidden fruit – The Apple. I have no room for Windows now. Felicia was right. 3 years ago when I got my Apple iPhone, she said it will slowly convert me 100% to Mac. Yes, once you gone Mac, you will not come back. For that record, I need not to click START to SHUT-DOWN my computer.

Learn from a small company, big Ass! Get outta of the Windows!

Private Screening

Today, we booked a 12-seater theater and screened our own movie! What a fantastic experience to have your own private "cinema"! For only HKD100, you get the big screen, the awesome audio and the superb OSIM leather massage chairs! Imagine all the privacy you have here! Screen your own movie (RA, PG or Homemade video!) and play your preferred subtitles (be it English, Hindi or Chinese). No more boring commercials and tight leg-space. Sit any where and any style you like! Best of all, our home is a lift away. Our children can just leave anytime they want!

Meet Our 90th Visitors!

This week, we welcome our 90th Visitors from Malacca! Meet my cousins-in-law Ben, May, Ammie and nieces and nephew Bryan, Veron and Adeline! Not forgetting Elkan’s favourite Poi-Poi and aunties-in-law!

It was a tiring trip for most of them. Not from the shopping and walking – but the kids! Really, it wasn’t a good idea to gather all the kids together. The kids were okay when they were left alone…but when you put all of them together – it was Typhoon Rascals! They transformed into uncontrollable monsters, terrorising every one in the group. Lucky for me, I only need to face them for a short while. Elkan was the Ring-Leader and got the other innocent kids into trouble. They left destruction everywhere – running around on the MTR, playing hide-&-seek in the retail shops and toppling vase at the hotel lobby… Casualties? 3 adults (Felicia and mum lost their voices) were down with illness and my backache is haunting me right now.

Giant Play Mobil

(Photo Taken: "WiseKids Shop at CyberPort" – Before BearBricks, there is the 7.5cm tall PlayMobil! At CyberPort, there is a shop with lots of giant PlayMobil figurines! Originated in Germany and launched worldwide in 1974, 2.2 billions little figures have been produced worldwide. Maybe I should order my own custom-made Playmojo! Lovely!)

Sweet Treat

Layers of smooth shaven ice and thick durian paste, we love the way HongKies prepared these sweet treats! Dessert shops are super popular here – especially after shopping hours. Long queue, small shops, tight sitting space, fast turnover and certainly very lucrative businesses. Pretty strange for my little boy who loves the smell of "Smelly Bean Curd" but hates the smell of our "King of Fruits".

Shangri-La @ The Land of The Orang Utan

Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort @ Kota Kinabalu offers the finest gems of nature and a suite of fine services. Fine powdery beach, clear blue sunny afternoon sky, deep orange sunset, cool sea breeze and fresh morning woody scent. Sitting beside a nature reserve, this resort offers the best of Sabah in a lush, 400-acre tropical setting beside exquisite Pantai Dalit Beach.

It is a wonderful place to retreat for a week. Go conquer the tallest mountain in South East Asia – Mt Kinabalu or muck-diving with 3,000 species of fish and coral reefs in the clearest water of Sipadan island. This is the mating ground of green and hawksbill turtles and also the only home of the largest living arboreal animals – the Orang Utan. Currently, there are only about 30,000 Orang Utans living in the wild and they can only be found residing on the island of Borneo and Sumatra.

When I came to know that there is an Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center within the Nature Reserve in our resort, I decided to skip my lunch one afternoon and check out these magnificent primates living in the wild. It was just a short 10-minute walk into the forest when I heard something swinging above my head. I looked up and saw a big "bird-nest". It was one of the Orang Utan’s home. These nests were huge. (And I thought only birds build nest on the trees to sleep!) It was a good experience for me to see them living in the wild. Thankfully, I had my Canon 200mm zoom-lens with me!

Sabah is a great relaxing place but I have so little time to explore its wonders (as this is a working trip). No caving, diving or forest exploration (My only regret is I didn’t get to see the world’s largest flower – The Rafflesia). Next time…hopefully with a bunch of monkey friends.
