Ogilvy Funland – No Admission Charge!

For those who have seen Google Office in the USA, check out Ogilvy’s Fun-Themed Office in Guangzhou! I have heard so much about it for almost 6 months – finally, on Thursday afternoon – Desmond (my 52nd HK Visitor) and I went there for a meeting! It is so interesting and fun to work there! What a dream space for great ideas! (Sigh, now I really think my Shanghai Office is a half-f**k themed space and my HK office is very much like a law or banking firm.)

One less telephone number

Recently, I found about the death of 2 of my old friends. One was a primary school friend and the other a business associate. Both died young – and lost their fight against cancers. Over the last 3 years, I have heard and seen so many young friends dying, departing suddenly. I just can’t help but accepted the cruel fate of life.

All the time, I miss my family and friends a lot. I just cannot imagine not be able to hear their voice or see them again. No matter how much I hate it, there will be another time when some one I love had to leave me for good. My family and friends can only accompany me this much. Death can take a man away physically.. but it cannot erase the memory and feelings inside. And that is what causing the pain – the beautiful memory of a face or an affection.

I am always there for my family. I was there when Elkan was borned. I was there by his side when he slept. And I was there beside him when he woke up. I was there whenever my darling needed a hug. Of course, I know I won’t be there when one of us completes his/her journey. And I won’t be there to whisper goodbye to him/her. Same things about our parents, we can never be there with them throughout their entire lifetime.. but only lovingly with them towards the end of their journey.

Life is such a Gift. Be it good or bad, every second of being alive is just such a great feeling. No matter how long or short one’s life is, it is always sad to end the journey and leave our loved ones behind. Our passion to live after death is so strong. Faithfully I prayed – may there be life after death.

Perhaps, I just hate to be reminded of this very basic fact. "We are borned to die" (a phase I remember from Sam). And a collection of memories can be so beautiful yet sad. Yes, I do cherish everything I have in my life. Every second of it. And every thing I do.

Perhaps it is a good time to release my mind from thinking what I want to do for my work. But more of what I want to do with my own family. (One hour OT per day is about 15 good days a year!) I can write a long list of bucket list but it is best to do it with the ones I love. Before cancer knocks on one of our doors. And before we close our eyes forever.

Death is a good reminder how short our lives are. And how fragile it can be. Let’s find the joys in our lives.

Before another good name and number is erased off my phone for good.

Colouroke Man

Meet "Colouroke Man" of Mong Kong (my nickname for him). Drop a coin, colour his body and he sings you a song.

Eat Shit!

What a surprising "shitty treat" for my 51st HK Visitor, Miss Heidi Tang (my old Shanghai colleague!). Finally, we made our way to the well-known "Modern Toilet" restaurant at Mong Kong this evening. When I told Heidi that I am going to treat her to "eat shit", she didn’t find this amusing!

It is everything that we have heard of. Fast-food dining in a nice colourful toilet environment. Poo-looking lightings, toilet seatings and dinner sinks. Imagine eating brown-creamy curry from the toilet bowl and drinking foamy yellow lemon tea from a mini-urinal! Wait till you read the dishes names in the menu… It is everything our parents hate!

The food is not bad (I will give it a 7.5 rating). Portion is big and the price is very reasonable, ranging around HKD40-60/set. Sadly, they didn’t have good old smelly yummies like "smell bean curd" or "durain" in their menu. If they do have, that will be a "match-made in heaven" dish! (A little disappointment that they didn’t their waiters dressing like janitors).

Mmm…if patrons can accept a "shit restaurant", it won’t be long before someone opens a "sex restaurant". Imagine all the food you eat there! It will be 100% hot, wild, steamy and certainly erotic! Make the diners lick, bite, suck and swallow… Opps, I may be going a little too far.

My Lirpa!!! I am on World News!

Today is also a day of many extraordinary headlines. No more false pregnancy, fake toto winners or marriage proposals news.

8:15am  –  "Another bad omen. Last night, a tree branch fell and hit Sir Stamford Raffles’ Statue. Part of bodies broken!"

8:30am  –  "Playboy and PentHouse Magazines will finally be on shelves in Singapore end 2010".
Gareth called me and exclaimed "Finally, we can be in porn business!"
Francis messaged me "So what, unless you become their marketing director!"

9:00am  –  "Mango Asia may be closing down. Clearing out sales from now till end April"

Tracy messaged "Wow, how you know? I go to IFC later to shop!!!"

6:30pm  –  "Latest news! Osama is caught! More news at Lirpa Loof!"
Juliana MSN "You today our news broadcaster? Morning Mango news.. at night Osama!"
MC said "Where you get this news?? Dun have leh!" (10 minutes later) – "You got me again. 2 years in a row!"
Francis snapped "Yah right! I am pointing my dick at him right now!"
Well, the power and magic of Lirpa Loof is certainly big. Remember last year… Juliana was tipped to be pregnant in April. And nice souls like Echo, Hovman and Francis Goh even sent their most sincere wishes to Juliana and Duuk 3 to 4 months later! Of course, she did got pregnant (eventually) in Oct.

Indeed, believing is fullfilling. It is simple mind-power. That is how I won the "World’s Greatest Business Mind" and "Star of Disneyland" awards! My mother and sister would be so damn proud of me! And my buddy Gareth congratulated me with the most heartwarming words "Bro, you finally made it!"

Bread & Love

(Photo Taken: Times Sqaure, Hong Kong)

The lady selling cookies for her marriage reminds me of a friend who once told me "Find your bread first and love will come." Love is fated while bread is a choice we make. While many find difficulties understanding fate, they do long for the choice they make in love. Of course, many found their love in their course for making bread. And some faithfully believe in that one unique love they shared, regardless what bread they eat today or tomorrow. I say, if a pure, true love is something that is hard to come by, why ponder any longer.

You see, life in itself is a very big gift. A gift that contains many little gifts. While you can search for that one perfect gift inside this box, we know we will never find one. Cos’ we change with time too. Expectation may end up in disappointment. Contentment breeds happiness. Passion drives reality.

Yes, the best lesson of life is taught through love and many heartbreaks. And at times when you think you are lost, you will be surprised that there is always someone at the corner for you. And for that one moment, forget those destinations you had in your head. Let your heart be your best compass. All you need is just one good journey.

A Misty Goodbye

Don’t get me wrong. There is no tears this time. Just that the mist came back to Hong Kong early yesterday morning. My family came and left in a flash. And the minute they left, we went to the arrival hall to welcome Scott. Life in Hong Kong has been as surreal as a dream. Only beautiful and eventful.

I truly enjoyed the surprise guests and I will never be able to erase that memory of my mum sitting (or hiding) at the foot of my office block. My folks have been very very thoughtful. Every time we mentioned about meals, all 3 of them insisted that we go somewhere cheap. (Guess that I am "branded" as a host who spent a lot on awful food??) Meeting these 3 folks was a challenge… cos’ from time to time, they will be telling us to go home(using Elkan as the excuse!!) Of course, we know their good intentions inside. It is just that their acting sucks. And we know they do enjoy shopping, shopping and shopping.

My old ladies are not an easy bunch of lovies to handle. Amazingly, I have been nagged by them since 3 till now! And the naggy hit a new height when you have a combo of Auntie Amy, Zhu, Yi-poh and my own mum! I am smarter this time. I tried to keep under the radar and get Felicia to distract them. Haaaa…aa… Guess what? And when they aren’t nagging at me… they nagged amongst their own sister! Haaaa… now that is truly family entertainment ~ live! (Leon, you are evil, you should come to HK this week instead of last week!)

Really hate them for planning such a short trip. I could have cleared my awfully "a-lot-extra" annual leaves to accompany them. On the other hand, they did got a very very value-for-money package! It is a cheap and great package to fly to Hong Kong. And yes, Amy said this is her 5th and possible the last trip! I strongly differ that – cos’ there are a lot more nicer places here that you haven’t explored! Come back again.. this time, I have my ear-plugs and Leon. Haaaa.. Just kidding. You know how much we love you folks!

Yes. We are happy to have you folks here. Do stay longer the next time.
