Going Deep with Vivian Chow (Deep V25 Concert 周慧敏演唱會2011)

Last night, I have a date with my childhood sweetheart, Vivian Chow. Back in the 1990s, she was every boy’s fantasy. She was the definition of my dream girl – slim, fair, long hair, pure, clean, curvy body, sweet charming smile, big sparkling eyes, baby fat and fragile-innocent looking. Back in those days, I spent all my pocket money on her movies, cassettes tapes and photographs. She was certainly one of the hot Asian idols in the 90s. The girls ogled at Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai. The boys had their eyes and minds on Vivian Chow (okay..and also Amy Yip).

Tracy managed to get last minute tickets via Vivian Chow’s Fan Club. We sat with her Fan Club. We were sitting center, just 5 rows from the stage! (I intentionally made Meijie jealous when I text-ed him about the concert! Unknown to many, Meijie and Jimmy held long, deep infatuation on Vivian! Bet Meijie keeps her poster till todate!) Many times, we saw ourselves on the big screen, in the midst of the many bright LED signage. Her fans were super crazy. Despite sitting so close to the stage, our view were blocked by their big signs. These fans came from all parts of Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan). Guess we were the only Singaporean pair sitting with them.

Thanks to my new 300mm paparazzi lens, I managed to capture some real close-up shots of Vivian. Good thing we were sitting on these special seats, I was facing right in the center of the stage. I told Tracy Vivian was waving and flirting with my lens the whole night – of course, she didn’t believe me. I bet Vivian did.

Suddenly, I feel so young again. Vivian didn’t aged much. She looks sensual (and still hot) in her 40s. She invited many guest stars to grace her concert last night. This concert marks her 25 years in the entertainment industry. I am so happy to see her sing live here in Hong Kong. It was a pity that she didn’t sing many of her more popular Chinese songs. And my heart melted when she cried last night. Aw….feels like 15 again…so so in love (especially when she let down her long hair in that purple finale dress!). It was good that my wife wasn’t with me last night.

World’s Largest Rugby Ball

(Photo Taken: Central MTR Station, Hong Kong – Yes, you are seeing the World’s Largest Rugby Ball here in Hong Kong. Made by Cathay Pacific for the Rugby Sevens. This giant ball can contain 3,330 regular-sized rugby balls, is 4.7m wide, 2.9m thick and 2.9m tall.  It was produced in India (cos’ no factory in China can do this!), tested and played in Beijing for the Guinness World Record certification. For those who have the balls to give this a kick, here is your chance to bring it home if you are the highest bidder. Bid here at Cathay Pacific Facebook. Right now, the highest bid stands at only HKD15,000. The final bidding amount will be donated to the Hong Kong Red Cross to assist victims of the recent earthquakes in Yunan, Christchurch and Japan.)

Farewell. Again.

One week passed by in a blink. Felicia and Elkan flew back to Singapore yesterday afternoon. Despite their short visit, they have made so much difference in my life here. For the better of course. Felicia overhauled the settings of the house and tidied my entire bedroom and kitchen. Overnight, she managed to rearrange the items and cleared more space for us. Elkan added a few more markings & doodling on my clean white walls and shower room glass. He was the opposite of Mummy. He messed up the living space with his toys and dirty laundry. Strangely, I started to enjoy his noise and mess. Perhaps, these are the essential characters of a family. A home.

On their last night here, Kit organised a mini dinner gathering at her house. She made us very delicious home-made ice cream dessert. She shouldn’t be a lawyer, she should open up her own ice-cream joint by the beach.

Harshad joined us for lunch on their last day. We went back to the “茶餐廳” (Hong Kong Cafe) again as Elkan and Felicia had cravings for their favourite local dishes (dark soya-sauce chicken noodle and french toast).

On our way to the airport, we found a florist selling the popular Facebook’s icon “I Like” cushion (at HKD68).
We bought it immediately and we spent our 20-minute train ride taking photographs with it!

When it was time to say goodbye, it was only hugs and kisses. No teary goodbye this time cos’ we know we be seeing each other really often. We are already looking forward for our next reunion in May and June.

Transit Time

(Above Photo Taken: Bus Terminal at Disneyland, Hong Kong – Windy and cold. We were waiting for our taxi. Elkan wrapped himself with Mummy’s scarf. The bus terminal was empty. Just 3 of us, waiting for our next transit. It will be a long way home.  Below: Central, Hong Kong – Checking out the back alleys and authentic traditional shops along Hollywood Road.)

Best Friends, Sons and Wives

It is our great honor and pleasure to play host to our 121st Hong Kong Visitors – Meet my very very good primary school buddy, Lionel Wong and his lovely family (Hui Qing & Dylan). It has been a good 3-4 years since we last met. Like fathers, both our sons and wives hooked up with each other quickly. Within hours, our boys played, hugged and held hands like long-time buddies. And our wives had a great time shopping and chatting! I managed to spend some quality time with them at Disneyland today. It is certainly great to have them around – especially for our boys and wives. Feels so warm and comfortable.

Homecoming Week

Yes, my prankster half is back! After our last reunion in Singapore 3 weeks ago, Felicia and Elkan flew in to Hong Kong last Friday night! My gosh, my son has grown so much taller (again!). He is only 6 and he is already 60% of my height! So good to have them back in town! (Yippy, my house is messy and noisy once more! It feels so much like home now!)

Elkan came prepared with his long “to do” list. He missed his favorite Hong Kong “茶餐廳” noodles and our weekend hikes. From Central to Hong Kong Park to Kornhill, we did quite a lot of activities (watching movie, playing Ps3, shopping, hot-pot dinner and 2 x hiking) within the last 48 hours! We wasted no time and did so many things together!

We had one of our toughest hikes this afternoon. It was a strenuous 10km uphill hike (from Quarry Bay to Stanley) and we over-estimated ourselves (physically and time). After hiking uphill for an hour, Felicia and Elkan were limping in exhaustion. In the end, after “consulting” some of the local hikers, we decided to give up and turned back. It was impossible to complete our original hike before sunset. We were only 40% at that point. Originally, Tracy was planning to hike all the way to the Peak – her “wishful hike” would take us at least 7-8 hours!

Of course, there were lots of funny moments of squabbling, complaining and whining. Not really our ideal hiking experience but we managed to complete our longest and toughest hike (6.2km up 280m) at the shortest time (1.20 hrs) ever! Guess we have to exercise more to train up our stamina! Enjoy the video:
