My Prankster is Back!

My prankster is back! Together with his favorite accomplice, Harshad, they went terrorizing the streets of Hong Kong. While Felicia, Tracy and I were doing our grocery shopping, Elkan and Harshad did a short “Black Street Boys” at the Central Market at Soho this morning.

My Daddy

I was feeling sad today. At the departure gate, I was trying to hide my sadness from my dad. I really wish he can extend a day or two. I wish we can have more time sharing our stories – just like the old days at the old flat at Eunos. Over the past 5 days, I showed my dad my life in Hong Kong – my home, my office, my friends, my life – where I work, where I shop, what I eat and where I party.

This is one special trip that I have been looking forward to for the longest time. For the last 10 years, I have neglected my dad. Ever since I had my own apartment and working overseas, Daddy and I hardly have time for one another. We met up every time I went back to Singapore but our contact time was so brief. My daddy has suddenly aged a lot over the recent years. Unlike my chatty and mischievous mum, Dad is usually a fatherly figure of little words. Nevertheless, he is one person I miss so dearly. (Mum and wife are going to be jealous reading this!)

It took me many months (and countless rejections) to get him to visit me in Hong Kong. Daddy has phobia traveling alone. (In fact, this is his first solo flight without any friends or family! I am so proud of him!) I didn’t invite anyone but my dad for this trip as I wanted an exclusive “father-&-son” bonding time with no distraction. I was so happy when my dad finally agreed to take leave from his volunteer work to spend 5 days with me in Hong Kong!

Over the past 5 days, we went to many places. It is Daddy’s first trip to Macao, Shenzhen and Dongguan. We watched the “House of Dancing Water”, gadget-hunting at the IT Malls at Shenzhen, partied at Dongguan, 7am 5km hike, dolphin-watching at Tai-O and visited the “Big Buddha” at Lantau Island. I rediscovered so much things about my dad. From hiking to parties, my old man is 200% fitter than me. I had difficulty keeping up with his pace. He sleeps only 4-5 hours a day. He does hiking effortlessly and he can hold his liquor much better than me. And yes, my Daddy is still so charming with his jokes, tales and singing.

It was an amazing reunion. And I really enjoyed every minute of his company. There are words that my dad never tell me. That night at the pub, he told one of my friends many great things about me. Moved by my dad’s words, she came over to tell me what he said. I was so moved to tears.

Dad, thanks for being so proud of me. And I love you too. See you soon.

Gardens by the Bay

BLOG BY FELICIA (19th Nov 2011)

School holidays started with a blooming of orchids from all over the world! It was the 20th World Orchid Conference, held at the new “Gardens by the Bay” – Singapore’s premier urban iconic indoor attraction!

The Flower Dome is a huge indoor, air-conditioned park (spanning a total of 101 hectares)! Quite a pity it doesn’t have a big field for us to have a picnic. The Orchid Exhibition showcases many rare orchids from all over the world. There are black orchids that look like pitcher plants, orchids that smell like chocolate in the morning and orchids as big as my palms! My 2 mummies and aunt were shopping and bargaining for their favorite orchids. The kids were chatting with one of the stall owners and got themselves some free gifts!  It was a tiring day for all of us. Especially the long queues for the shutter-bus transport. At least the mummies and aunt went home happy. They each bought a pot of orchids!

“You are The Apple of my Eye” (那些年,我們一起追的女孩) is nominated for 3 Golden Horse Awards. Inspired by his own teenage love, this film is directed and written by Giddens Ko. Superbly funny and touching. A great story from the heart. Opens in Singapore on 10th Nov 2011. Go watch it.

Selina Guo’s Big Day

BLOG BY TRACY BAY (5th NOV 2011)

Shenzhen Hot Bods Pole Jumping

Shenzhen’s sinking “Xiaomeisha Sea World”

I am a big fan of zoos and aquariums. Tracy and Harshad were away this weekend, I went to visit the popular Shenzhen Xiaomeisha Sea World on Saturday.  And it was a very disappointing visit. It is a far cry from the Hong Kong’s Ocean Park, the Shenzhen Sea World is poorly maintained and most of the sea life here are living in pathetic conditions. (The poor polar bear and arctic wolves have such tiny space to move!) This is not the best place to see “sea life”. The only entertaining bit was the water ballad and acrobatic diving performance. I can’t believe Trip Adviser gave this a 4-star rating. To me, it is only worth 1.5-star.

WTH?!! IT’S MY WIFE!!!

(Photo Taken: Felicia’s Halloween Costume “Where’s Wenda”!! WTH = Wenda-Hell!!! I choked when I saw this photo on my WhatsApp! Didn’t know my wife has such a wicked sense of humor! Now, she is going to regret sending me this photo! Haaa… she is going to be the poster-girl for the week!)

ABOUT WENDA – Wenda is Waldo’s current girlfriend. The character is the “one who takes the pictures” according to the intro of The Wonder Book, but she always loses her camera. Wenda was featured in the Where’s Waldo? television series, in the episode The Living Exhibits. She first appeared in 1991 in Where’s Waldo: The Magnificent Poster Book along with her twin sister, Wilma. Wilma, however, has not been seen since. Wenda’s wardrobes include a red and white striped shirt, blue skirt, red and white striped stockings, glasses, and red and white bobbled hat.
