Meijie Sexed 32!?

Good old brother… you are 32 OREDI!

So, you got a "rosy and sexy" cake from the gang. I heard about the roses.
Question is: What about the "sexy"? Bro, are you still the 32-year old Virgin?
I sure envy you…you are the rose amongst the d**g in the clan.

Sorry old bro, all your girlfriends are migrating over to Shanghai.
Guess you can’t have your "deflower" party this Christmas. You better do that before they come!

Miss our usual pingpong and tea breaks at Eunos. And miss our weekly Xbox, DVD dates.
Sigh…guess we got to wait for another 6-12 months more before I come back.

Happie Birthday! (Come to Shanghai lah…I introduce some nice friends to you!)
Yes, better than the nun, the nuts and the naggy (if you can guess who they are).

The Mega Designer Reunion – Since 1996

(My ex-Temasek Poly Design Course Mates – since 1997!)

I was browsing Joanne’s Picassa this morning and I saw the photos of the Mega VC Gathering. "VC" stands for Visual Communication – a course where I met many of my buddies. It is so heart-warming browsing these photos online. I love what Joanne wrote in her captions.

Can see a couple familiar faces – people who I always want to meet and say "hi" – There are Zen, Bread, Joey, Dominic (my BMT friend), Sabrina, Vivian, Kailing and Sherry. Of course, the usual gang – Ernest, Randy, Boy, Christina, Diane and Martin! (My lovely boy from Tokyo!)

I was so moved by the smiles and joys in all these snapshots. It was such a great and meaningful reunion!
I should take that extra effort (plus the cost) to come back for this reunion. At least I can fill in more SPACE for Class VC1A. (where is the others like Fartly, Ash, Lynette, Dione, Juliana etc?)

Thanks Joanne for uploading these photos on your Picassa. Thanks Randy for calling me to invite me too! And Diane for emailing me reminders on this event too! Any chance I get to have the MSN contacts of those I marked orange here?

Queen Juli is Back!

June has been a great month for me. Juli, Feli and Echo made me feel so at home (like I am back in Singapore). I feel so at ease going shopping, dining and chatting with them. Especially with the girls around, I feel the half of Wahbiang. It is really great to be in a city where you receive so many visitors. Man, it is like "every month"!

After complaining how bad Shanghai was, Juliana left for HOME yesterday! She has been in China for 2 months! That is 1/6 of 2007. This mini seperation really made her see a lot of things and I am glad she completed her journey. Duuk, sorry pal, your freedom is OVER. Haaa…cos’ your mama is back. (She really dotes on Duuk a lot – slightly less than Paris of course – I have invited Juli to stay over this weekend for Hangzhou trip but she declined to head back home for Duuk).

Juli, thanks for that birthday surprise, it was really sweet and unforgettable. Elkan cried so badly the night you left. Guess he knew it was "goodbye". Start missing your presence… I asked Felicia which is her most enjoyable day this trip – she mentioned it was the day without me and Elkan (Urgggghh!). It was the Sat when both of you went shopping together – while me and Elkan were sleeping back home.

Soon, Feli and Elkan will say "bye" and it was back to the same old empty house for me. But fear not, haaa… I have visitors coming.. Desmond and Yogi are coming next week and after they left, Scott is coming the following week! Soon followed by Kelvin and then Tracy..and then Feli and Elkan again. So, I am really at the right place.

Okay. I bet Juli has lots to catch up with her girlfriends and Duuk. Shanghai is a nice city, Juli. Come back soon. For shopping’s sake.

Yahoo! I am going Hangzhou tomorrow with my family, colleagues and client! (Yes, strange gang)

p.s. (Juli, remember to tell Joanne that I DID bring you to NEW places. If not, she and Tracy will complained about me being a boring standard tour guide!)

When Birdie Calls…

For some strange reasons, there is a bird nest (with hatchings) hanging outside my Singapore apartment. It is such an amazing sight. I mean, how is it possible for a wild bird to build its nest so close to human’s territory? I am telling you, the "feng shui" must be damn good. For 4D lover, look no further. The number is on the door. (Pasted by my tenant).

The Great Walk of China – A Lonely Expat Road

Seeing Juli starting her new life in Beijing, it is indeed a "deja vu" for me. Exacting 365 days ago, on May 11th 2006, I left Singapore for Shanghai.

Life as an expat is never easy, especially when one is attached. The emotional struggle within can be so tough that even the strongest character may break down and fall. It is beyond that leap of faith. It can even change a person.

It took me more than 3 months to settle down. The first 4 weeks were chaotic for me. At some point, I was very dis-oriented, lost and lonely. I spent some Mondays typing on MSN to Joanne and Tracy asking them "Why the fuck I made this move?" I was so comfortable in Caffeine and I am sure I can do better. But the lure of working in Shanghai is too strong to resist. Not for the money but for the experience and learnings. I just want to explore my limitation and see how far I can go.

To be honest, it doesn’t take a lot before I hit my limit. All it took was Elkan’s smile. Every departure is heart-breaking cos’ I know I would miss his little touch and hugs. Not to mention about my lovely wife, caring girlfriends and brothers!

Have I regret taking this road? No.
My journey, despite its ups and downs, taught me a lot of things in life. Walking alone, it gave me a chance to understand myself better. I came face to face with the demons inside my heart and mind – conquering my own fears and doubts. And finding the love of my life. It made me realised who are the most important people in my life.

In short, this road has made me a better and stronger person.

Dun get me wrong, I wasn’t talking about taking "an expat road". It was about taking a personal journey which one made to discover more about himself. It is not about "where or how"…but more of "what" came out of that journey.

p/s (For Juliana and Duuk –  Enjoy this journey – May you two discover new things in your life.)

Makeover Room

Recently, I decided to play "Reality TV – Makeover" and helped a friend to overhaul her messy 20-year-old bedroom. She is working too hard and has no time or heart to change her space. We were discussing about it last week, and on impulse, the makeover is done and completed in just 10 hours! The result? Not bad. (Still in WIP, but the final piece will be nice!)

My May Golden Week (1st – 20th May 2007)

Just exactly 1 week ago, I bid farewell to my old daddy and mummy in Shanghai. Leaving my Shanghai house to Diane (my ex-TP friend), I flew back to Singapore once again! It will be a long stay this round (3 weeks of vacation-cum-work).

As usual, I rushed home to meet all my kakis – and just in time for Juli’s last supper. She flew off on 1st May with Duuk, starting her new life in Beijing. (Sigh, 1 more Singaporean working in China). Just chatted with Juli online…she is having "Expat Blues" – the same shit I felt last year. She is now feeling moody and sad… self-questioning her move to Beijing. I hope she get used to her new life smoothly… if not, Shanghai Jojo Clinic is only 1-hour away! (Girl, it is worth it! Trust me!)

Met a couple of buddies too
(Scott, Gareth, Meijie, Joanne, Kalinda)…and bumped into Nadirah at Suntec. (Wow, marriage life shaped her..she looks more modern and pretty now!). "Scott Ass" got himself a new job and a nice office at Suntec! Envy, envy ~ he is certainly enjoying a hi-flier life now! (Look at his office! Nice view outside, still as messy inside!)

I also dropped by my company, Caffeine and just in time to wish old Richard "Happy Birthday" (I bought him a cake but he eyed my fancy ESPIRIT Umbrella! Yes, I gave it to him). Guess what, Randy and me chatted only for 2 minutes. He got me to do a strange task – changing the ceiling light bulb!!! Tracy is still coughing…Joanne still as cranky.

Yes, I have 1 good week of fun and making new discoveries. The big ferris-wheel @ Marina is 90% completed. Century Square got a new pink coat of paint. Tried the new "New York, New York" at CityLink. Watched Spider-Man 3 at Plaza Singapura. Visited the new Ikea Tampines. I had an 1-to-1 dinner with my little boy – we chatted for 1 hour! Karaoke till 3am @ KBox! Plus a weekend getaway with my boy and Bobo at Batam Island. Finally, a nice steamboat Sunday dinner with my parents at Auntie Amy’s house (I had durians for desserts!).

Wow, that was quite a lot of activities (in just 1 week!). Enough recharge, got to work tomorrow – preparing my Hong Kong trip this Wednesday.

Gareth’s 32th Birthday

Our "Mr M1" just turned 32! Happy Birthday, bro!

Joanne’s 30th Big Bang

Joanne is our clan’s prima donna.
I remember her 28th birthday. She celebrated it for 1 month! And when it is her birthday, the world is at her mercy. Of course, everyone has their birth rights to enjoy. For Joanne, she just want to be happy, happy and more happy!

For the past couple of days, I was kinda worried how to please this "queen". She has lots of expectation, I believe. For days, I have been pondering what should I get for her…. Coincidentally, we was in Shanghai last year on 25th March 2006. So, that was like a "birthday trip" for her. And it was so coincident that she is here (again!) this year… I have no idea what to offer her this time.

Nothing beats "sincerity", I am sure. Last night, we were watching the Chinese movie "Happy Birthday" (man, dun know why Joanne picked such a sad love story). At 11:58pm, I excused myself to get some snacks and drinks for us. At the stroke of 12, I walked out of my kitchen with a cake, lighted with candles. Dun think that was a big surprise for Joanne. Still, she got that bright cheerful smile on her face.

Today was a packed day for Joanne. My primary school friend was here. I brought 2 of them all over Shanghai (from the Bund to People’s Square, from Pudong to Puxi). It was such a tiring but fun day. By 6pm, Joanne was half "dead-tired". Juliana called her, asking her about her day. Joanne answered "Sian lor, so boring and tired". I tell you, I came this close ><, wanting to kick her down HuangPu River.

What Joanne didn’t know is Francis and Echo have planned a surprise party for her. At 9pm, I have to trick her to go to Francis’ house (on the reason that Echo and Francis are moving house and needed our help). So, what is the surprise? I tell you.. it is the most spectacular surprise ever.

Francis greeted us at the estate gate. He walked us to his apartment block. Just as we stopped at his block, we heard a loud explosion right above our heads!!! (To be honest, Francis never prep us for this. Both Joanne and me got a bad shock instead of a surprise. I almost jump into the nearby bush to take cover!) And that was when Francis screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to Joanne, we realised what happened. Up above our heads, colourful and dazzling fireworks filled the night sky. It was magical! (Echo was at the other end, firing the fireworks).

We fired about 100 shots into the dark sky. Joanne had her 1st taste of firework. Like most 1st-timer, it was a scary experience for Joanne – and we expected it! (Mmmm..all Singaporeans really scare of dying..their 1st reaction is always like this "Safe or not huh?") After the fireworks, we went back to Francis’s house for birthday cake cutting.

Is our prima donna happy? I don’t know. But I certainly know she is happier and less lonely here. Caffeine Shanghai loves her a lot.
